It all started with web design.
I began my artistic journey after the youngest of my five children started school and I returned to college to learn web design. I found I disliked using stock photos in my designs, so I took up photography to solve that problem. That lead to learning to edit the photos, which led to photo manipulation. Though I explored different genres such as portraiture and still life, my favorite thing to capture was always flowers.
Now here we are…
I have a very strong spiritual practice and I perceive the Divine in all things, particularly nature. In an effort to share my perception of connection and love that we all share, I use my pen to render natural subjects. Sometimes that results in landscapes or botanical studies, but mostly it involves birds and other small creatures, usually with very emotive eyes. I want to encourage viewers to look deep into the picture and hopefully experience the healing and beauty offered to us as a gift from the Earth.
Then came drawing.
Although compositing pictures and using digital tools to turn them into painterly works fed my creative needs and won me an award or two, I longed for a more organic way to create art. I always loved drawing but hadn’t done much past childhood, so that seemed a good place to start. As with most things we don’t know, I wasn’t very good at first. The fact that I was determined to improve showed me that I had chosen wisely. Though I tried many different things, including watercolors and acrylics, my preferred medium is ink, using both dip pens and fine liners.
I reside in Prince George, VA with my extremely supportive husband James, two adorable cats and two very spoiled Chihuahuas.
